Positives on arranged marriages:
Arranged marriages has been apart of Indian tradition for a very long time.
Many parents believe this system of marriage allows security for the newlyweds
because they are making the decision and they know what’s best for their
children. Arranged marriages are also a good system because the partners are
selected by class. This means that no spouse is greater than the other or higher
in terms of class. They are treated equally by citizens around them. Arranged
marriages also prevents children to make bad decisions about who they are about
to spend the rest of their lives with. This system of marriage allows the couple
to endure their new life together and seek their strengths and weaknesses from a
fresh start. Starting off a new marriage from an arranged system means that the
couple will have no problems from the past as opposed to a love marriage.
Negatives on arranged marriages:
Although there are many positives about arranged marriages in India, there are also some
negatives. Arranged marriages do not allow the men and women to express
themselves through marriage, whatsoever. They have absolutely no say in whom
they want to marry, a partner is just selected for them by their parents. The
bride and groom have no background information on one another, they are
basically just committing themselves to complete strangers. In a love marriages,
the couple knows each other’s strengths and weaknesses as well as their ups and
downs. Therefore, they know how to handle each other. In arranged marriages,
this is not the case. You are committing yourself to someone who knows nothing
more than your name and your class. This can cause many problems in the
marriage, and it can be difficult to solve problems that occur during the
marriage.
